After watching their team end its season with a comfortable win over the rival Denver Broncos, fans of the Las Vegas Raiders made it clear they'd like to see interim head coach Antonio Pierce continue to lead the Silver and Black next season on a full-time basis.

With quarterback Aidan O'Connell kneeling down to wrap up the Raiders' 27-14 win, fans at Allegiant Stadium serenaded their team with chants of “AP! AP!” to show their appreciation, courtesy of 8 News Now's Logan Reever.

Pierce became the interim coach in Las Vegas following the firing of Josh McDaniels. McDaniels got the team off to a 3-5 start and was fired on October 31st, after a 26-14 loss to the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football in Week 8.

A former linebacker with the New York Giants and Washington Commanders, Pierce made the leap from linebackers coach to head honcho. A rejuvenated Raiders team responded immediately, knocking off the Giants 30-6 and the New York Jets 16-12 in Pierce's first two games.

A three-game losing streak followed to drop the Raiders to 5-8. But the team did rally to win three of its final four games of the season, including a throttling of the Los Angeles Chargers and a major upset over the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas.

Pierce splashy enough for Mark Davis, Raiders?

Although Pierce did impressive work in leading the Raiders to a 5-4 record and a second-place finish in the AFC West, he will have to fight the history of owner Mark Davis.

Davis is known to like making big splashes on coaching hires.

In January of 2018, Davis lured Jon Gruden out of retirement with a 10-year, $100 million contract. When, in 2021, Gruden was fired because of an email scandal, special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia became head coach on an interim basis.

Despite leading the Raiders to a 7-5 record and a playoff berth, Bisaccia was not retained. Instead, David hired McDaniels away from the New England Patriots.

Did Pierce do enough during his audition to lock up the job on a permanent basis, or will he suffer the same fate as Bisaccia?
