The Oakland Raiders made a splash with the acquisition of former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown. Head coach Jon Gruden was not shy about his reasoning for the trade.

The deal for Brown has come with its fair share of mixed reviews. According to Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Gruden feels the Raiders now have the best wide receiver in the NFL.

“In my opinion, we acquired the best wide receiver in football. Now, let’s get to work.” Antonio Brown said Gruden “played everything” in his decision to become a Raider.

There is certainly plenty of truth to Gruden's comments. Brown has long been considered arguably the best wideout in the league. This is backed by the fact that he is a seven-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro. It would have been six had he not chose to sit out the final stretch of the 2018 campaign due to his dispute with the Steelers.

Despite Brown's elite status, the move has raised further speculation regarding what Gruden's plans are for the Raiders. They parted ways with nearly all of their Pro Bowl-caliber players in his first season as head coach. Among them was star wide receiver Amari Cooper, who had just been entering his prime years as opposed to the 30-year-old Brown.

Fortunately, the Raiders only gave up a third and a fifth-rounder in exchange for his services. Meanwhile, they still have three first-round picks to toy with in the 2019 NFL Draft. The onus will further be on Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock to make the most out of those picks.
