The Las Vegas Raiders have had an exciting draft. One that has brought them a ton of weapons on offense. With that in mind, the hype around them is building.

According to Vic Tafur of The Athletic, Las Vegas general manager Mike Mayock isn't ready to make the bold statements just yet though.

The Chiefs have been one of the best teams in the NFL for the last two seasons, and won the Super Bowl last year. So they are the current standard in the league. That can't be fun for teams in their division, the AFC West.

And it just so happens, the Raiders are one of those teams. Due to that, this is a pretty reasonable question. However, Mayock didn't want to give a full answer.

It's probably not so much that he doesn't believe in his team. It's just not smart to call out the defending champions like that.

The Raiders went 7-9 and missed the playoffs last season. That same year the Chiefs went 12-4 and won the Super Bowl. So that's a pretty massive gap to close. A gap that, realistically, one offseason probably isn't filling.

The Raiders GM is playing it close to the vest. If he hypes up the team too much, anything short of a Super Bowl will be a massive disappointment. It wouldn't make sense to put that type of pressure on a team that didn't even make the playoffs last year.

Mayock is likely very happy with how his team is shaping up. No need to make your team a target though.

Smart move by the general manager.
