NFL analyst and former running back Maurice Jones-Drew likes how things are shaking out for Oakland Raiders rookie running back Josh Jacobs. He thinks Jacobs is set up for success in his first NFL season.

Maurice Jones-Drew ranked Josh Jacobs 21st on his running backs list heading into 2019 and had this to say about him:

“The Alabama product is set up for success thanks to the additions the team made at wide receiver and on the offensive line in the offseason,” Jones-Drew wrote for NFL.com. “It's not likely that he will often face a loaded box, giving him the opportunity to make splash plays. I see most of his value coming at the goal line and in short-yardage situations.”

Jones-Drew is of course speaking of the Raiders' offseason moves to acquire wide receivers Antonio Brown and Tyrell Williams, as well as offensive lineman Trent Brown.

Whether that translates into success for Jacobs during his rookie campaign remains to be seen, but there is no question that having that much talent alongside him will make his game easier.

Jacobs is coming off a junior campaign at Alabama in which he rushed for 640 yards and 11 touchdowns while averaging 5.3 yards per carry.

His mediocre speed and lack of collegiate production had many scratching their heads at Oakland's decision to take him with the 24th overall pick of the NFL Draft in February, but there are some, like Jones-Drew, who feel that Jacobs will actually be a very good NFL running back.
