Las Vegas had it's opportunity at hosting the NFL Draft tabled for later in April due to the coronavirus pandemic. The league's insistence on pushing forward with the event leaves the city out in the cold — at least until 2022. That's where Raiders owner Mark Davis, who just moved the franchise to Las Vegas, is stepping in.

“Absolutely,” Davis said via Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, concerning the likelihood of the city hosting the Draft in the near future. “At some point in time Las Vegas is going to be able to take advantage of being Las Vegas and what we have to offer here. So we’d be beyond excited for that opportunity.”

Davis is the latest NFL owner in the most recent half decade to pick up his franchise and relocate to a new venue in a new city. In the case of Las Vegas, it just so happens to be one of the premier travel destinations in the world, one that is renowned for its ability to throw an extravagant party — or in other words, exactly what the NFL Draft is looking for.

With Cleveland set to host the 2021 NFL Draft, the next opportunity that Las Vegas will have comes in '22. With '23 already allocated to Kansas City, the league's front office may feel that rewarding Vegas for its lost opportunity is the right move.

Either way, it appears that the NFL is gung ho on utilizing its newest city to its advantage. When that happens remains to be seen, but the Raiders owner is ready to embrace the Draft in his new city whenever it comes.
