The Las Vegas Raiders' coaching search has been dominated mostly by two names: Rich Bisaccia and Jim Harbaugh.

Bisaccia, Las Vegas' interim head coach, helped the team overcome several off-field scandals and navigate them to a 7-5 record and into the playoffs. Harbaugh, meanwhile, has been linked to the Raiders and his contract with the University of Michigan, despite being extended in 2021, is being renegotiated. The possibility of returning to the NFL remains a possibility for him.

The Athletic's Vic Tafur reported that Harbaugh-to-Vegas is not yet a done deal. Firstly, Las Vegas will need a new general manager after firing Mike Mayock. Also, the Raiders still have work to do in their head-coach search, especially as it pertains to Harbaugh.

So … when is Harbaugh’s introductory news conference?

There are a couple of snags.

One, the Raiders would have to interview him first. And a bigger one, they would have to show an interest.

As we said two weeks ago, all the rumors have come from outside of Las Vegas.

One person close to the situation in Michigan said Tuesday that the rumors could all be “hypothetical leverage” for Harbaugh’s contract talks with the university. One well-placed NFL source was stronger, calling a Harbaugh-Raiders connection “total noise.”

Harbaugh's only stint as an NFL coach was wildly successful, as he took the San Francisco 49ers to three straight conference championships following a nine-year playoff drought. The Raiders now are well ahead of where the Niners were when Harbaugh took over.

Derek Carr has voiced his support for Bisaccia. But the Raiders may look to hire someone flashier and with more experience in order to take advantage of this window of opportunity.
