If Scott Gleeson and Tom Schad of USA Today Sports are correct, Colin Kaepernick will not be unemployed for much longer.

In a piece where Gleeson and Schad made some sports predictions for 2019, they prognosticate that Kaepernick will end up signing with the Oakland Raiders in an attempt to push Derek Carr.

Gleeson and Schad also mention that the Raiders will be looking to “make a splash” before their move to Las Vegas.

While I'm not sure that signing a backup quarterback is exactly a huge “splash,” it's easy to see where Gleeson and Schad are coming from.

After all, Carr had a pretty disappointing season in 2018, throwing for 4,049 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions while completing 68.9 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 93.9.

While Carr was hardly terrible, it was just not the same type of production we saw from him a couple of years ago, when it looked like he was developing into one of the more explosive quarterbacks in the NFL.

Of course, the broken leg that Carr suffered late during the 2016 campaign may have had something to do with his recent drop-off, as he also had a fairly underwhelming year in 2017 in spite of a Pro Bowl appearance.

The 27-year-old signed a massive five-year, $125 million extension with Oakland during the summer of 2017, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history at the time. That was after Carr racked up 3,937 yards, 28 touchdowns, and just six picks while completing 63.8 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 96.7 during a 12-win 2016 campaign which got the Raiders back to the playoffs for the first time since the 2002-03 season.
