The Las Vegas Raiders are making quite the habit of writing checks to the NFL office through the first month of the 2020 season.

As reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Raiders were fined $50,000 by the league, after allowing a non-credentialed employee into their locker room following their game against the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 21.

Having investigated over the intermittent two weeks, the NFL's decision to levy another infraction against the recently relocated club, follows penalties against Jon Gruden for failing to wear a mask on the sideline, as well as one against the team for the lack of social distancing and mask wearing at an indoor charity event.

Saturday's announcement of the fines, also comes several hours after it was reported that New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton had tested positive for COVID-19, and that therefore the Patriots game against the Kansas City Chiefs would be postponed. The second match of the year that has been forced to be delayed—with the Titans-Steelers game being the other—due to concerns over the pandemic, the fines underscore the seriousness with which the league office is attempting to confront the challenge of limiting any potential spread of the virus during the season.

The only North American sports league to proceed with its season relatively unchanged in the face of the coronavirus, the NFL entered the year confident that it could complete its schedule so long as its medical guidelines were followed. In doling out such heavy penalties against a single club, the hope is that an example has been set.
