Vontaze Burfict may have changed uniforms, but he hasn't changed his stripes, and the NFL is making him pay.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Oakland Raiders linebacker has been suspended for the remainder of the season as punishment for his late hit on Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle on Sunday.
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported earlier on Monday that a season-ending ban for Burfict was looming.
The incident occurred in the second quarter of the Raiders' win over the Colts, when Burfict not only applied a late hit to Doyle, but made helmet-to-helmet contact.
Doyle took exception to the hit, which was ruled unnecessary roughness. Burfict was then ejected and ran off of the field laughing and blowing kisses to the Indianapolis crowd.
This is hardly the first time Burfict has run into trouble with the league, which is why this suspension is so severe.
The 29-year-old is well-known for being one of the dirtiest players in the NFL, which is a big reason why he has never been able to fulfill his lofty potential.

The Los Angeles native, who played his collegiate football at Arizona State, went undrafted but eventually landed with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2012.
He had a terrific rookie year, playing in all 16 games and totaling 127 tackles and a sack. He then followed that up by racking up 177 tackles, three sacks, an interception and a defensive touchdown in 2013, making a Pro Bowl appearance.
Since then, suspensions and injuries have prevented Burfict from playing any more than 11 games in a single season.
The Bengals cut Burfict back in March, and he went on to sign a one-year deal with the Raiders.
