Th Los Angeles Rams have had the looming cloud over the head of the franchise over the last four weeks with Aaron Donald deciding to hold out in hopes of working out a new long-term extension with the team.

According to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN, the three-time Pro Bowler has decided to continue that into Monday's practice less than a week away from the season opener on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

Aaron Donald, holding out all summer in hopes of a more lucrative contract, was not on the field with his Los Angeles Rams teammates by early Monday afternoon for the start of a practice that coach Sean McVay previously deemed “the first day of true preparation” for their first opponent.

This likely puts him out of the mix to be able to play this week as it would not provide him enough practice time to get himself physically prepared to take the field in a regular season game. Keep in mind, Donald hasn't practiced with the team for the last several weeks including all of training camp and the NFL preseason.

The 26-year-old is set to enter the fourth year of his rookie deal that will pay him $1.8 million and the fifth year of his deal has already been picked up by the Rams. Donald has certainly outperformed his deal as he's become one of the top defensive players in the league in his first three seasons as he leads all defensive tackles with 28.0 sacks and 57.0 tackles for loss.

It had been revealed that the Rams had met with his representatives in Atlanta last week and the team has voiced confidence that a deal can be worked out but no timetable has been given.
