Bad news for the Los Angeles Rams. Cornerback Aqib Talib tweaked his hamstring during Saturday's preseason game against the Oakland Raiders, according to Steve Rebeiro of the Rams Wire.

This is an especially ominous sign because Talib missed so many games during the Rams' Super Bowl campaign. The former Denver Bronco appeared in eight games and wasn't particularly impressive in any of them. He did play in all three Los Angeles playoff games and forced a fumble against the Dallas Cowboys.

While Talib didn't play badly, the Rams weren't expecting mediocre football. It's true that Los Angeles only gave up a fifth-round pick for him, but the expectations were still high. The Rams assembled something resembling a Madden lineup on defense, but Talib didn't do his part. Opposite corner Marcus Peters was even worse, so the two combined to give Los Angeles a very average pass defense.

Even though Talib and the Rams fell short in the Super Bowl, hope is not lost. Los Angeles strengthened the roster in the offseason, adding guys like Clay Matthews and Eric Weddle. It's true football games aren't won on paper, but if they were, the Rams would win a whole lot of them. The receiving corps remains unchanged, and the defensive line is still a nightmare for opposing teams. The only potential hole is the offensive line. The Rams lost guard Rodger Saffold in free agency and released center John Sullivan. Hopefully, Talib can pull the defense together, and make another deep playoff run.
