Houston Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks clapped back on Twitter after he was scrutinized as one of the players who received extensions from the Los Angeles Rams but ultimately failed to live up to their potential. Cooks answered back that he managed to get back on his feet with the Texans and even exceeded the 1,000 receiving yard mark in 2020 despite spending only a season with his new team.

After coming off a trade from the New England Patriots, the former Oregon State standout eventually landed with the Rams in the 2018 NFL season. He was immediately given a five-year, $81 million contract extension to stay with the team, shortly after his arrival in Los Angeles.

Cooks took off in his first season with the Rams where he played in all 16 games as a starter and produced 1,204 receiving yards on 80 receptions and five scored touchdowns.

After a strong campaign, Cooks failed to follow it up in the 2019 NFL season where he fell off the depth chart behind Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods, and Tyler Higbee. He tallied a career-low output of 583 yards on 42 catches with only two touchdowns through 14 games in the 2019 season.

He was eventually traded to the Texans along with a 2022 fourth-round pick in exchange for a 2020 second-round pick during the offseason. After ending up in a shallow offensive rotation, Cooks managed to regain his footing and generated a total of 1,150 yards on 81 touches along with six touchdowns in 15 games appearances in 2020.

According to Bleacher Report, the Rams had to absorb a $21.8 million in dead cap after letting Brandin Cooks walk via trade back in 2019. It comes in a close second behind former quarterback Jared Goff's impending $22.22 million cap hit for the upcoming season.
