Los Angeles Rams running back C.J. Anderson may have been cut by the Carolina Panthers earlier in the season, but that does not mean he wasn't grateful for the opportunity.
“My time in Carolina was special because I got to learn from good coaches and good players,” Anderson said, according to Jourdan Rodrigue of The Charlotte Observer. “I’m a cerebral guy. I got to learn a lot from [head coach] Ron Rivera about defenses. … I got to learn one of the best in the game in Luke Kuechly. The way he sees offensive formations and knows what plays are coming. Luke is probably one of the smartest dudes in this game once Peyton [Manning] left.”
Anderson played in nine games with the Panthers this season, rushing for 104 yards on 24 carries. He was then cut by Carolina on Nov. 13, and three weeks later, he signed with the Oakland Raiders.
However, his stay in Oakland was very brief, as the Raiders released him a week later.
Then, Rams running back Todd Gurley injured his knee during a Week 15 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, and Los Angeles signed Anderson shortly after.
It ended up being one of the most important signings of the year.
In two regular-season games for Los Angeles, Anderson rushed for 167 and 132 yards, respectively, before puncturing the Dallas Cowboys vaunted run defense for 123 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
With Gurley compromised since suffering the knee injury, Anderson has been a revelation for the Rams' offense, as Los Angeles' ground game has not missed a beat.
