On Wednesday night, the ESPY Awards were held in Los Angeles, California. They are hosted this year by four-time NBA Champion Stephen Curry. One of the early awards happens to be one of the more important and impressive awards given. Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp won the ESPY Award given to the player with the Best Championship Performance. Kupp was named Super Bowl LVI MVP as the Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals, 23-21.

Kupp won Super Bowl MVP by reeling in eight catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns. That included numerous clutch catches in the final, game-winning drive and the game-winning touchdown.

All of that came after an unbelievably dominant regular season for the the Rams wide receiver. Kupp won the Triple Crown for receiving last season. He finished the year with 145 catches for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns. The 145 catches fell just four short of Michael Thomas' NFL record for a single season.

Cooper Kupp was up against a wide variety of athletes for the ESPY Award. His fellow nominees were Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche, F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix winner Max Verstappen and UFC fighter Julianna Pena, who won his title fight at UFC 269.

It was a bit of a departure from most years when a baseball player and basketball player are also nominated for this award. Nevertheless, Kupp was totally deserving.

He and the Rams will look to become the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowl championships since Tom Brady and the New England Patriots did it in 2003 and 2004.
