Jared Goff will get his first chance to go up against the Green Bay Packers and the great Aaron Rodgers in his young career. Goff, who was a University of California alum like Rodgers, got to watch the Packers QB in action during his college days.

But while Goff went No. 1 overall coming out of Cal, Rodgers did not. It apparently did not sit well with the then-10-year-old 49ers fan when he learned that his team had passed on Rodgers for Alex Smith with the No. 1 pick in the 2005 NFL Draft.

“He was upset, but with that being said, I'm a fan of Alex (Smith), as well,” Goff said per Cameron DaSilva of USA Today. “But yeah, 10-year-old Jared (Goff) was very upset when he found out they didn't take Aaron.”

Based on how Rodgers’ career has panned out, the 10-year-old Goff was absolutely spot on in his belief that the Niners made the wrong call with that pick. While Smith became a serviceable starter, Rodgers has gone on to become arguably the greatest quarterback of his generation, leading the Packers to a Super Bowl while also winning two MVPs.

Goff has turned into a pretty good quarterback himself after a rough rookie year. He’s led the Rams to a perfect 7-0 start as they look like the Super Bowl contender to beat in the NFL this year. And despite his childhood allegiance to Rodgers, Goff will obviously do everything his power not to let the Packers stand in the way of the Rams improving to 8-0.
