The Los Angeles Rams are still reeling from suffering their third straight loss at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers. Unfortunately, the hits just keep on coming for the Rams.

Los Angeles announced they have placed safety John Johnson on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, via Twitter:

There is no question that this is a crushing blow to a Rams' defense that has experienced a tumultuous turn of events as of late. The injuries continue to pile up after they were also forced to put cornerback Aqib Talib on injured reserve with a rib injury. It is safe to say that their absence will leave some rather notable voids in the secondary.

Johnson has established an integral role for himself on this defense since his arrival as a former third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He was off to another stellar start to the year after registering 51 tackles, two interceptions, and two passes defenses in six games. Unfortunately, his bid for a potential Pro Bowl has now come to a screeching halt with his recent designation.

Head coach Sean McVay indicated that safety Marqui Christian will likely fill in as the starter in Johnson's absence. Safety Taylor Rapp could also see an increase in reps if Christian needs help.

The Rams did manage to bring in a significant boost to the secondary with the acquisition of former Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey. The onus will now fall on Ramsey and safety Eric Weddle to fortify their coverage over the top for presumably the rest of the regular season.
