The Los Angeles Rams won't have any competition for punter Johnny Hekker anytime soon. Despite that, the team recently signed punter Brock Miller to join the team during training camp.

There doesn't seem to be an issue with Hekker but even punters need a rest sometimes. That's likely why Sean McVay brought in Miller. Miller was with the San Francisco 49ers in training camp in 2017 but has yet to play in a game.

Due to being left-footed (unlike most punters), he constantly receives attention from teams but hasn't been able to stick with anybody. Maybe being around one of the league's best punters will allow him to increase his interest from teams.

After all, anyone who seems to be in the same area code as McVay seems to receive an opportunity nowadays. Miller is hoping that is true for punters as well.

Last season, Hekker rarely saw the field as the Rams boasted one of the best offenses in 2018. Altogether, Hekker punted it just 43 times (tied for the least in the NFL for starting punters).

Despite his limited opportunities, Hekker averaged 46.3 yards per punt (seventh-most in NFL). Impressively, Hekker was able to pin the opposing team inside the 20-yard line 21 times out of his 43 punts.

Besides punting, Hekker has constantly been used as a fourth-down weapon on fake punts. Over the course of his career, Hekker has completed 12 of his 20 pass attempts—including one in last season's NFC Championship game against the New Orleans Saints.

Don't worry Rams fans, unless McVay says there's something wrong with Hekker, there will be no punter controversy in Los Angeles.

It just seems like McVay is just allowing Hekker to get a break with his leg before the regular season.
