Matthew Stafford is more than happy with how the drama surrounding his situation with the Detroit Lions ended up with himself being traded to the Los Angeles Rams. As it turns out, however, there were a few other possible destinations for the star quarterback other than L.A. — as well as a couple of teams that Stafford simply did not give the time of day.

Without naming any teams, Stafford admitted that he did not consider moving to a side that did not have championship aspirations:

“What’s accurate is — and this is an incredible thing by [the Lions] — I asked to go to a team that was ready to win a championship,” Stafford told Mitch Albom of the Detroit Free Press. “And, you know, there were a few teams on that list. There were a few teams that were not on that list. And they were respectful of that and understood completely. I had thoughts and reasons for each one of them.”

It is clear what Stafford wants at this point in his career, and unsurprisingly, a championship remains at the very top of his list. He has an opportunity to achieve just that with the Rams, which is exactly why he agreed to sign with the squad.

It is worth noting that there are a few other non-championship squads that could have offered a better package to the Lions in exchange for Stafford. This is where the 33-year-old is coming from when showing his appreciation for Detroit's front office in terms of respecting his wishes.
