New York Giants rookie Saquon Barkley is set to face off for the first time with Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley. Barkley has a lot of respect for the Rams star, whom he watches and wants to learn from.

Barkley also believes Gurley should be named the NFL MVP if the season ended today.

“I definitely can learn a lot from the guy who blocked for probably, today, the MVP of the league, in my opinion,” Barkley said per NJ.com. “I watch film on Todd Gurley, I love the way he plays. He’s an all-purpose back and a threat any time he touches the ball, he runs physical and runs right in between tackles.”

Gurley was also a strong MVP candidate last season. But unfortunately, he lost out to Tom Brady and had to settle for Offensive Player of the Year.

Gurley is having an even better season this year, though. He leads the NFL in yards from scrimmage with 182 carries for 868 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns to go with 37 receptions for 362 yards and four more touchdowns as the focal point of the Rams' prolific offense.

But despite taking his game to an even higher level, Gurley will once again be hard pressed to win the award if Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes continues with his amazing season.

It might not come as much consolation, but Gurley has at least one believer in Barkley, who is ready to rep hard for his fellow running back as the league's real MVP.
