Disappointing news has come upon the Los Angeles Rams this morning. According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, Todd Gurley has arthritis in the knee that bothered him during the 2018 season.

Gurley apparently suffered a knee injury in Week 1 against the Raiders. It was “bad” according to Gurley, but he toughed it out and continued playing.

The running back's knee issues lingered on throughout the season—with the Rams deciding to shut him down for the last couple of weeks in the regular season.

The Rams signed C.J. Anderson, who thrived in the Rams offense for the rest of the season. Gurley was on track to come back after the regular season ended.

Everything seemed normal when Gurley returned for the Rams in the playoffs. In his first game back, Gurley rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown en route to a victory over the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Divisional Round.

L.A. fans believed they had gotten their All-Pro running back healthy, only for them to be disappointed in the Super Bowl.

The Rams were up against the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. The Patriots came out victorious, winning 13-3 in a rather disappointing game from the Rams offense.

Gurley finished the game with 34 total yards on just 11 touches. Everyone started coming up with possible reasons why Gurley was limited in the biggest game of the season.

No one saw arthritis being the reason though. Gurley's knee problems stem from his college days at Georgia where he tore his ACL in 2014.

The definition of arthritis is painful inflammation and stiffness of the joints. For a running back, knee arthritis isn't pleasant.

Just last year, Gurley received a four-year, $60 million extension from the Rams. The Rams will now to have to handle their star running back differently going forward—as they have already said they will.
