The Texas Rangers take on the Seattle Mariners. Our MLB odds series has our Rangers Mariners prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Rangers Mariners.

The Seattle Mariners do not have a complete team. Their offense can be very painful to watch. They have holes in their batting order, and they remain a team which can stall out and stumble if Julio Rodriguez is not hitting. Seattle clearly needs a high-end bat at the MLB trade deadline just after the All-Star break. The Mariners have the pitching depth they can use in a package to fetch a premium hitter and give them a real chance of contending in October. However, while their offense does leave something to be desired, the Mariners — precisely because they have so much pitching depth — are nevertheless a team which will have a chance this postseason. It is looking increasingly likely that Seattle will host a few playoff baseball games this year.

Seattle has its flaws, but so far in 2024, the Mariners are easily the class of the American League West Division. They are watching their foremost competitors tumble and trip at every turn. The Texas Rangers won the World Series last year and somehow, for some reason, can't score runs this year. Adolis Garcia has been mired in slumps. The batting order which was so consistent in 2023, and which made Texas one of the most feared teams in baseball, has regressed with few exceptions. The Rangers just can't pull themselves out of a collective funk, and with losses to Seattle in each of the first two games of this series, Texas has fallen 7.5 games behind the M's.

The Houston Astros — the team with two world championships and four World Series appearances since 2017 — have endured a nightmarish start to their season. Starting pitching injuries, ugly bullpen implosions, and offensive struggles have put Houston at 32-39 through 71 games. The Astros are highly unlikely to be at or above .500 by the All-Star break, and they are running out of time in their attempt to be a contender at the trade deadline. They might become sellers.

Seattle, seeing the struggles of Texas and Houston, has a chance to really get on top of this division and bury its pursuers before August, which would give the M's a rare chance to set up their roster and rotation for October. The Mariners would also like to make a run at the Cleveland Guardians for the No. 2 seed in the American League playoffs. This is a time when the Mariners can take some big steps toward the first World Series appearance in franchise history. They're still looking for that first breakthrough season. Let's see what this team is capable of.

Why The Rangers Could Cover The Spread

The Rangers know this is a huge ballgame. People will say that it's just one game out of 162, but anyone in the baseball industry will tell you that over the course of six months, there are a few games which do stand out as extra-important. They're simply not all the same in value or significance. The Rangers really, really need this game. They lost the first two in Seattle and badly need to avoid a sweep loss which would put them 8.5 games out of first place. If they win, they're 6.5 games out and can convincingly tell themselves they still have a shot. If they lose here, they won't be able to make that same claim. The Rangers are going to treat this as a playoff game. The Mariners, by comparison, won't have nearly the same urgency. That will matter.

Why The Mariners Could Cover The Spread

The Mariners are good. The Rangers are bad. You don't need to overthink this one from a Seattle standpoint.

Final Rangers-Mariners Prediction & Pick

The Mariners are the better team, but picking them to sweep the Rangers feels dicey. Our official recommendation is to stay away from this game entirely.

Final Rangers-Mariners Prediction & Pick: Mariners -1.5
