The Baltimore Ravens have signed quarterback Robert Griffin III on a one-year deal, the team announced via Twitter.

Griffin, 28, was not on an NFL roster last season. He last appeared in an NFL game with the Cleveland Browns in 2016. He was placed on injured reserve after suffering a shoulder injury in his very first game as a Brown, but he returned to finish the season.

He went 1-4 as a starter, racking up 886 passing yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. He also ran for 190 yards and had two rushing scores. He was released by the Browns at the end of the season.

Griffin was the No. 2 overall pick by the Washington Redskins in the 2012 NFL Draft. He had an outstanding rookie season as he threw for 3,200 yards with 20 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also added 815 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns as he was named Offensive Rookie of the Year.

However, Griffin suffered a serious knee injury late in his rookie season and was never quite the same since. He was not able to replicate his rookie campaign in Year 2. He then suffered more injury problems in 2014 as he played just nine games due to a dislocated left ankle. In 2015, he suffered a concussion during preseason, which opened the door for Kirk Cousins to claim the starting spot.

Griffin is in line to be Joe Flacco’s primary backup in Baltimore. Prior to his signing, Josh Woodrum was the only other quarterback on the Ravens’ roster. Ryan Mallett was Flacco’s backup last season, and he remains a free agent.
