Baltimore Ravens legend Ed Reed is returning to his alma mater.

The Hall of Fame safety accepted a position with the University of Miami as the “Chief of Staff” and will advise head coach Manny Diaz in multiple aspects of the program, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:

Diaz noted Reed has always been loyal to the Hurricanes and expressed excitement at bringing him into the fold on Thursday (via Kevin Patra of NFL.com):

“We are thrilled to welcome Ed back to Coral Gables,” Diaz said in a statement. “He is not only one of the most decorated players in Miami football history but also a devoted Cane who cares deeply about this program. All of our players, coaches and staff will be fortunate to tap into his experience, knowledge and passion on a regular basis.”

Reed was one of the best players in Miami history during his tenure (1997-2001) in Coral Gables. He was named a consensus All-American in two of his four seasons. Reed is one of just three players in program history to earn a pair of All-American selections.

Of course, Reed experienced a great deal more success in the NFL. The Hall of Famer was named First Team All-Pro in five separate seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, leading the NFL in interceptions on three occasions. Reed ranks seventh all-time in interceptions (64) while leading all payers in interception return yards.

The last year has been a whirlwind for Reed, who was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019 and now prepares to head back to his old stomping grounds.
