Lamar Jackson had a truly historic season for the Baltimore Ravens in 2019 and he created more history on Saturday. After a remarkable campaign, Jackson became just the second-ever unanimous MVP in NFL history, per Ian Rapoport.
From the moment the regular season began, Jackson quickly began to prove his doubters wrong. Following the 2018 season, many were skeptical that Jackson could be a serviceable NFL quarterback.
But in Week 1, Jackson would show off his much-improved arm as he torched the Miami Dolphins for 324 yards and five touchdowns. He also recorded a perfect passer rating of 158.3 as Baltimore won 59-10. For the rest of the season, Jackson wouldn't look back.
When the regular season concluded, the second-year quarterback finished with 3,127 passing yards, 36 touchdowns, and six interceptions for the Ravens. At the same time, Jackson proved that he's the most lethal dual-threat quarterback by rushing for 1,206 yards and another seven touchdowns.
Correspondingly, Jackson became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for over 3,000 yards and rush for over 1,000 yards in the same season. Not even Michael Vick can say that he achieved that impressive feat.
While Jackson was terrorizing opposing defenses, everyone was running out of superlatives to describe his performances. From jaw-dropping throws to converting spin moves to evade defenders, Jackson was the most exciting player to watch in 2019.
It's also important to realize that Jackson now becomes the second-youngest player in NFL history to win the MVP award. The youngest is Jim Brown so Jackson joins some elite company before he even turns 23-years-old.
