Mark Ingram's tenure with the New Orleans Saints has all but officially come to a close. As the free-agent running back ponders where to continue his career, one team supposedly looms as a more likely destination than others.

In a tweet since affirmed by Josh Katzenstein of The New Orleans Times-Picayune, Michael Silver of Sports Illustrated suggested the Baltimore Ravens have emerged as a frontrunner to sign Ingram.

Negotiations between New Orleans and Ingram reportedly broke down earlier this week, leading to the team to agree to terms with free-agent running back Latavius Murray, effectively ending Ingram's career with the Saints. Both player and team had previously expressed a desire after the 2018 season to reach a deal that would keep the 2011 first-round pick in the place his career began.

Ingram had 138 carries for 645 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games last season, averaging 4.7 yards per carry.

The 29-year-old has been a fixture of the team’s offensive attack since his rookie season. His numbers took a dip in 2018 after New Orleans afforded more responsibility to Alvin Kamara, who responded with a second consecutive Pro Bowl appearance after winning Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2017.

Baltimore, meanwhile, is in dire need of backfield help after releasing Alex Collins earlier this month. The team's third-leading rusher during a personally disappointing season in 2018, Collins was arrested on March 1st after crashing his car near the Ravens' practice facility, upon which authorities found five ounces of marijuana and a handgun.

Rookie Gus Edwards led Baltimore in rushing 718 yards, averaging a stellar 5.2 yards per carry.
