Even if he still has one more year in his current contract and has a chance to keep playing for a perennial contender in the Baltimore Ravens, offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. took a risk and decided to seek a trade to play elsewhere.

It’s a bold move, but he knows that staying with the Ravens meant continuing to play as right tackle, which wasn’t his long-term plan. So when he had the chance, he followed his late father’s advice.

In an interview with NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Brown revealed that his father, a former right tackle nicknamed “Zeus,” advised him when he was younger that he should always try to improve as a player when he can, which includes playing left tackle when he has the opportunity.

“He always told me, ‘Don't settle for playing right tackle,” Brown said of his father. “Make sure that when it comes time and you get to every level, you're playing left.'”

Fortunately, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta granted his trade request. This early, there is a strong market for him at the position, with Brown’s agents reportedly in discussion with six teams looking to give him the opportunity at left tackle.

Even if he is set to make $3.384 million on his current contract with Baltimore, Brown still wants to shift to left tackle, where he has played his whole life. But that changed when the Ravens drafted him in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, even though he knows he plays better at his original position.

One factor that will play a role in the trade process is his new contract, and teams are confident that the Ravens will find a trade partner for the 24-year-old. When they do, he’ll finally have a chance to fulfill his father’s wishes and return to the position he’s always played.
