Adrian Peterson is currently with the Washington Redskins, preparing to enter his 14th season in the NFL. Despite Washington's efforts to improve at running back, Peterson isn't going to give up his starting role in the offense.

Peterson, per ESPN's John Keim, expressed his dedication to being the top back in the room in a Zoom call, saying,

“I've always had the mindset of being open to competition … So I will embrace it the same way. People ask me that question all the time — ‘Man, the Redskins are really packing that running back room, huh?' I'm like, ‘Yeah, they are.' But hey … just gotta execute and produce.”

Over the course of the offseason, the Redskins signed Peyton Barber and J.D, McKissic in free agency. Also, Washington added Antonio Gibson in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Not to mention, Derrius Guice and Bryce Love remain on the roster.

Given all of that, Peterson's role with the team could be drastically different in 2020. While he wants to remain as the starter, the veteran running back realizes he could still help the younger backs on the team:

“I'm not that guy that's gonna withhold something to give myself an edge … A lot of these guys looked up to me — and still do — at a young age. So I'm going to do my part.”

In the past two seasons, Peterson has started in 31 games for the Redskins, combining for 2,290 yards from scrimmage in that span. Even though he turned 35 years old earlier this year, Peterson believes he can still start in the NFL. However, he may not have control over his future with the Redskins this offseason.
