The Washington Redskins are 0-3, and 2019 first-round NFL Draft pick Dwayne Haskins has yet to see the field. Jay Gruden is getting questions about this, as he should. With the Redskins failing to remain competitive for the majority of the campaign thus far, veteran quarterback Case Keenum will probably not remain under center for much longer; Washington must begin to turn its attention to the future.

However, in a revealing turn of events, Redskins head coach Jay Gruden recently explained exactly why he is not ready to start Haskins at the present moment.

“Well, we’ve played three games, and there’s 13 games left in the season,” Gruden said on Tuesday, via NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk. “This season is not lost. It’s not over. I know everybody wants to say, ‘It’s over, and the season is over, so go ahead and play Haskins.’ We feel confident we can turn this thing around. I’m out here at practice every day. We’re out here at practice every day evaluating everybody. If we feel like Dwayne gives us the best chance to win in a coming game, we’ll definitely put Dwayne in there. If we feel like it’s Colt [McCoy] when he gets healthy, it could be Colt. Right now, we feel like it’s Case Keenum, and we’re going to move forward with him this week.”

So far, the Redskins have been beaten by the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears with Washington being blown out in two of those three games. Despite keeping it close with the rival Eagles back in Week 1, the Redskins blew a massive first-half lead and were outscored by Philadelphia 25-7 in the second half of the NFC East matchup.

Dwayne Haskins couldn't do much about his team's defense, much as he can't do much about Jay Gruden's decisions.
