The Washington Football Team has already committed to champion a reverse of the team's culture after a series of tumultuous incidents. With yet another roadblock encountered, the club was quick to act on it as former running back Derrius Guice was released by the team on August 7, 2020. He was recently arrested and charged with counts of strangulation, assault, battery, and destruction of property from incidents that occurred earlier this year.

“Very difficult decision any time you have to release a talented young football player,” Rivera said. “This type of circumstance, this type of situation, we take those allegations very, very seriously.”

Rivera also said he spoke to the team’s players about the call to cut Guice and told them that it was in the “best interest of our organization” to move on without him.

After being picked with the 59th pick in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the former LSU Tiger has yet to live up to the team's expectations. He has career numbers of 245 yards on 42 attempts and 2 scored running touchdowns thus far. Guice was limited to five career games through two seasons.

After Guice's release, Washington's ball-carrier room is now mostly filled with new faces. The group is still headlined by long-time veteran Adrian Peterson, along with former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Peyton Barber, former Indianapolis Colt Josh Ferguson, former Detroit Lion JD McKissic, sophomore Bryce Love, and rookie Antonio Gibson. These players are all expected to step up and fill in the slot vacated by Guice.

Derrius Guice has already cleared waivers upon his release and is currently an unsigned free agent.
