Ha Ha Clinton Dix midseason audition with the Washington Redskins seems increasingly likely to land him a full-time role playing in the nation's capital.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Redskins are “working” on bringing back the veteran safety to pair him with the newly-signed Landon Collins in the defensive backfield.

Collins agreed to a record six-year, $84 million deal with Washington earlier this week. He was made available in late February when the New York Giants announced they would not be franchise tagging the four-time Pro Bowler, instead letting him hit the free agent market.

The Redskins acquired Clinton-Dix in a trade with the Green Bay Packers on October 30th in exchange for a fourth-round pick. Unfortunately, he struggled to match the success he enjoyed on a relatively consistent basis over his first four and-a-half years in the league, failing to pick off a pass and generally struggling when asked to make tackles on playmakers in space.

In nine games with Washington, Clinton-Dix had 66 combined tackles, three passes defensed, and one forced fumble. The Redskins, surprisingly, fared better on defense before his arrival, too.

It's unclear what salary the 26 year old hopes to earn as a free agent, though it's instructive that the Redskins released standout inside linebacker Zach Brown on Wednesday, a move reportedly made in effort to clear up cap space to bring back Clinton-Dix.

Washington has no other viable options to pair with Collins currently on the roster, though there remains an intriguing group of free-agent safeties available even after the top targets have come off the board.
