The wait for Joey Bosa continues in San Diego.

The 2016 number three overall pick finally signed a contract with the Chargers near the end of the preseason. But, within days, he felt tightness in his hamstring, and he's been out since.

There was optimism that he'd play in Week 2 or Week 3, but it didn't pan out on either occasion. The minor hamstring ailment continues to be a burden, and we now know it will cost Bosa at least a quarter of his rookie season.

On Friday, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Bosa has officially been ruled out of the Chargers' Week 4 game against the New Orleans Saints. Gehlken added that Jahleel Addae and Brandon Flowers are also out, with Antonio Gates and King Dunlap listed as doubtful.

Bosa didn't put on pads until a week ago, so even if his health is actually in order, he's certainly not in game shape. Head coach Mike McCoy continues to say that Bosa is taking the necessary steps to return, but the process simply isn't over.

The Chargers could really use Bosa, too. San Diego currently has the 23rd rated rush defense, according to Football Outsiders' DVOA. In particular, they're ranked 30th on rushes against them between the guards.

Adding an impactful Bosa to the mix will certainly enhance their ability to stop runs up the gut, and more consistently collapse the pocket. But, they'll have to make due without him against Drew Brees and company this Sunday.
