Less than a year after Chandler Parsons famously called out DeAndre Jordan for taking back his word to sign with the Dallas Mavericks and build a core with him, Parsons is apparently leaving the franchise as well.
According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, a source said that there is “no chance” that Parsons re-signs with Dallas.
Parsons, who supposedly has a strong relationship with Mavs owner Mark Cuban, has consistently stated that he believes he deserves a max contract. Dallas doesn't agree.
It's hard to blame the Mavericks here. Even if they were to keep Parsons by giving him the max, their roster still screams “one-and-done” in the Western Conference playoffs, unless they land another top free agent. They're not beating the Warriors, Thunder, or Spurs in a seven game series.
Parsons put up 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 29.5 minutes per game last season, which are solid but not exactly stellar numbers.
The big question mark that many teams are concerned with is the health of his knees. Some organizations fear he'll never be able to return to the form he showed on the court earlier in his career after a number of operations. Somebody will end up taking a chance on Parsons, but it apparently won't be Dallas.
