The Golden State Warriors have been one of the more busy teams in free agency, looking to retool their roster after a second NBA title in three seasons.
According to Marcus Thompson II of The Mercury News, the Warriors may have some interest in signing veteran forward Michael Beasley.
In actuality, Durant is the backup for Green. But when Durant hurt his knee in the regular season, their shortage of players who can switch from small forward to power forward was highlighted. They signed Matt Barnes, and he would welcome a return. But the Warriors want more athleticism and offense at that spot.
A name I’m hearing the Warriors are eyeing: Michael Beasley.
The 28-year-old is coming off a productive season despite playing in limited minutes off the bench, averaging 9.4 points on career-highs of 53.2 percent from the field and 41.9 percent from 3-point range along with 3.4 rebounds per game.
Beasley would be an interesting fit given what he brings to the table as a versatile player that can play both forward positions while being able to create his own shot. Although he has struggled on the defensive end of the floor throughout his NBA career, his offensive ability has overshadowed that for the most part.
The Warriors are likely banking on their culture and playing style extenuating his scoring ability in a rotational role off the bench, playing primarily behind Kevin Durant and Draymond Green while fitting into their numerous small-ball lineups.
