The Houston Rockets assigned Amen Thompson to the G League, via Marc J. Spears of ESPN. Thompson, who has battled an ankle injury, will likely play a couple games in the G League before returning to the NBA.

Thompson, the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, has played in just four games for the Rockets this season. He has been working hard to return, however, and this move suggests he could join the Rockets fairly soon.

The Rockets currently hold an 8-9 record. Houston has exceeded some expectations but they still have certainly missed Thompson's presence on the floor. Through his four games played in 2023-24, Thompson posted 6.3 points per contest in 16.8 minutes per game.

Amen Thompson injury update

There have not been many Thompson injury updates as of late. Kelly Iko of The Athletic previously provided an update on the young Rockets star which gave a loose timeline for a return.

“I caught up with rookie Thompson briefly after the game, who told me he’s feeling great and is itching to get back on the floor. He’s no longer in a walking boot. And, while he said a return this week is unlikely. We’ll see if he’s cleared to resume basketball activities after that.”

The Rockets could emerge as a contender in the Western Conference moving forward. If Amen Thompson can return and perform at a high level, Houston will unquestionably improve as a team overall.

We will continue to monitor and provide updates on Thompson and the Rockets as they are made available.
