The news this offseason isn't getting any better for Colorado Rockies fans. First, they traded away the face of their franchise to St. Louis when they sent Nolan Arenado to the Cardinals. This signaled that the Rockies are headed towards a rebuild. When you trade away your franchise pillar while he's in his prime it doesn't exactly spread confidence throughout a clubhouse. On Monday, one of their other stars may have had his fate slightly determined.

Trevor Story has been a monster in his five years in Colorado, making two All-Star games at shortstop. In the shortened 2020 season, Story led the National League in triples (4) and stolen bases (15). In his last full season in 2020, he clubbed 35 home runs to go along with 85 RBI's while playing in 145 games for the Rockies.

The Rockies' decision not to extend his contract makes him a prime trade candidate come deadline time this year. If Colorado doesn't plan on resigning him, they'd be foolish to let him walk in free agency without getting anything in return.

Once thought as a lineup that would cause headaches for opposing pitchers for years, the Rockies lineup has slowly faded away the last couple of season, not to any fault of the players.

DJ LeMahieu walked in 2019 after seven seasons and two All-Star appearances in Colorado. The aforementioned Arenado was traded to St. Louis this offseason, and now Story could be next. At 34-years-old Charlie Blackmon might be another player that the Rockies will move on from.

The key for the Rockies is the return package they got for Arenado and what a trade for Story would draw. A once-feared lineup has been ripped to shreds with more moves likely to come.
