In an intriguing piece of detail in this offseason, Zach Lowe of ESPN, divulged that the Detroit Pistons approached the Washington Wizards for a possible trade involving Blake Griffin and John Wall.

Via Zach Lowe of ESPN:

“The Pistons in recent weeks made an exploratory call to the Washington Wizards about a potential swap of Blake Griffin for John Wall, sources said, but Detroit's real level of interest in that deal is unclear; they value Griffin, and the conversation led nowhere, sources said.”

Despite the talks, no deal ever came to fruition with both stars eventually staying put on their respective teams. Blake Griffin's third campaign last season with the Pistons was marred with a couple of knee surgeries which limited him to only appear in 18 games. He tallied career-low numbers with norms of 15.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists through 28.4 minutes of action.

John Wall, on the other hand, last appeared in the 2018-2019 season and never made it back to play another game since having an infection in his heel surgery along with a ruptured left Achilles tendon after a slippage incident in his home.

His most recent playing season saw him record averages of 20.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 8.7 assists in 32 appearances for the Wizards. Despite the reported rumors of Wall recently requesting for a trade, team general manager Tommy Sheppard has made it clear that he has no plans of shipping the five-time All-Star as of the moment.

Wall's looming return and the Piston's revamped roster have both teams are looking to improve their chances of grabbing playoff seats in the Eastern Conference for the upcoming 2020-2021 NBA season.
