A Runescape fan named Lucas Kosinski rendered what a Runescape Remake could possibly look like when made using Unreal Engine 5.

Runescape fan Lucas Kosinski has just shared the fruits of his labor, a thirty-second video of his very own rendition of Runescape using Unreal Engine 5. He shared the video on his ArtStation, which you can find here.

Titled “The Legend's Guild”, Kosinski says about his work:

“This is my remaster of the Legend's Guild from RuneScape in Unreal Engine 5. I've been an avid RS player since I was 12, and getting to reimagine this iconic location in UE5 was such a cool experience! This project was made in affiliation with RuneScape Bits and Bytes, a RuneScape fansite that I have frequented for over a decade, with the goal of creating a neat little gift for the community.”

Getting to recreate locations from your younger years is sure a great experience for Kosinski himself, but this Runescape Remake also made a lot of other Runescape fans nostalgic.

“I tried to hit the balance right between realism in terms of foliage and materials, and a slight stylized look in terms of the lighting and overall shape of the architecture. The intened result was a mostly realistic look that still captures the essense and charm of RuneScape. I think I did an alright job achieving this vision thanks to the new technologies of UE5 as well as the amazing library of foliage available on Quixel Megascans.”

While Lucas Kosinski did get a lot of help from the works of others in his Runescape remake, it's still amazing how he can evoke nostalgia out of other players with his renders.

Runescape has stuck around in the MMORPG landscape in spite of the game's age. Runescape was first released in 2001, with the third and current iteration of the game, called Runescape 3, was released in July 2013. Then, a version of the game called Old School Runescape was also released in 2013, which is maintained alongside the the current version of the game.
