Sorry, The Nice Guys fans, but Ryan Gosling seems to indicate that a sequel might not be happening due to Angry Birds.

The 2016 comedy, which starred Gosling as Holland March and Russell Crowe as Jackson Healy, was praised by fans who enthusiastically wanted a sequel. The movie was about a mismatched pair of private eyes who investigate a missing girl and the mysterious death of a porn star in 1970s Los Angeles.

Though there's a mad craving for a sequel, don't get too excited. The Barbie star talked with Comicbook.com and seemed to indicate that signs are pointing to it not happening.

“So much of a sequel, I think, is decided by the opening weekend of a movie, and we opened up against Angry Birds,” Gosling said. “So Angry Birds just destroyed us. Angry Birds got a sequel.”

That said, when the movie was made, Gosling was all about it. And he still probably is, even with the lack of enthusiasm for a sequel, just because it opened with Angry Birds winning the box office battle.

Ryan Gosling discusses his role in The Nice Guys

Movie Plus chatted with him upon its release, where he discussed playing a less competent character.

“It's a great script, it's a great role; they're great characters,” the star said. “It wasn't just having fun subverting that idea; it was more fun getting to work on a Shane Black film. I grew up on them, so actually being in them was surreal and felt oddly comfortable. They are great flawed characters, and there is a great dramatic undertone to it, which I think is rare in comedies.”

As for how he prepared for the role, he took inspiration from his partner in the film.

“I use the Russell Crowe method,” he said. “I have never been to the drama school, man. I have never been to drama school. The only time I did any formal lessons, I studied classical texts for about three weeks, but I have been acting since I was about six years old, and over time you get more and more efficient about getting to the center of the character that you're portraying. I don't even know what the Stanislavsky Method may be. I have no f—-g idea, and I don't care to know! Seriously, it's not that complicated; if you want to be an actor, work it out yourself. I actually like the old Oliver quote: ‘Learn your daughter and don't bump into the furniture.'”

At the box office, The Nice Guys earned $26.2M domestically and $71.2M worldwide. Meanwhile, Angry Birds racked up $107.5M domestically and $353.3M worldwide.

So, there was quite the earnings spread. Still, it doesn't mean it's not a good movie. The Nice Guys has a respectable 91% Tomatometer score and 79% Audience Score.

Ryan Gosling didn't say he wouldn't make a sequel, so maybe there's a chance of one. Let's hope that if there is, there isn't an Angry Bird sequel released at the same time.
