With Drew Brees announcing his retirement following the 2020 season, the starting quarterback job for the New Orleans Saints seemed like a two-man race heading into the upcoming campaign.

However, it looks like Jameis Winston is the surefire favorite to start in Week 1 over Taysom Hill. According to DraftKings, Winston is a -200 wager to start for the Saints in the opening game, with Hill at +145. Rookie Ian Book is an extreme longshot at +3300.

Hill usually played instead of Winston last season when Brees was injured, but coach Sean Payton told Jameis that he would get a shot at the QB1 job. He's fulfilling that promise.

The former Florida State standout barely played at all last year. He featured in just four games, completing seven of 11 attempts for 75 yards. Yes, a very small sample size. But the Saints are aware of Winston's pedigree, having served as the starting QB for numerous seasons in Tampa Bay.

As for Hill, he's definitely more of a dual-threat thanks to his speed. The ex-BYU star started eight games in '20, throwing for 457 yards and eight TDs. Clearly, Payton is open to giving both players a legitimate chance at winning the job with the Saints, but as it stands, it looks as Winston will be QB1 against the Green Bay Packers on September 12th.
