The San Francisco 49ers are still very much alive in the postseason and are just one game away from playing in their first Super Bowl since 2012. If the 49ers does advance to the Super Bowl, they are hoping for a different outcome than the team seven years ago

In Kyle Shanahan's third season as the 49ers' head coach, he finally put everything together on both sides of the ball. During the regular season, San Francisco owned a 13-3 record and held the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

The 49ers carried their momentum from the regular season into the playoffs by defeating the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Divisional Round. As a result, San Francisco will be hosting the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game.

Even though the 49ers have had a successful season thus far, they still have areas on their roster that can be improved. In light of that, here are San Francisco's three major needs for the upcoming NFL offseason.

3. Wide Receiver

Earlier in the regular season, the 49ers chose to acquire Emmanuel Sanders via trade. San Francisco made the move due to their dire need for a No. 1 option at the wide receiver position.

Upon his arrival, San Francisco's passing attack became even more deadly. But after the season concludes, Sanders is set to become an unrestricted free agent.

Even though Deebo Samuel has emerged as a possible star, Shanahan could use more wide receivers in his offense. Luckily for the 49ers, this upcoming draft class is littered with talented pass-catchers.

2. Offensive Line Depth

Over the course of the season, San Francisco dealt with a slew of injuries along the offensive line. The current starting offensive line for the 49ers consists of Joe Staley, Laken Tomlinson, Ben Garland, Mike Person, and Mike McGlinchey.

Among their offensive linemen, only Tomlinson started in all 16 games in the regular season. Most importantly, Staley missed nine games due to injury and isn't getting any younger at 35 years old.

When the offseason begins, San Francisco is slated to have four offensive linemen that could become free agents. Due to injuries and possible departures, the 49ers would be wise to add some depth to the offensive line in 2020.

1. Cornerback

Before the 2019 season, San Francisco signed Jason Verrett in hopes he could become the team's No. 2 cornerback. Unfortunately, Verrett was plagued by yet another affliction and was placed on injured reserve early in the season.

With Verrett being sidelined, the 49ers were forced to turn to Ahkello Witherspoon and Emmanuel Moseley. Of course, Richard Sherman is holding down the other side of the field as he's still one of the league's best corners.

Throughout the season, teams have targeted Witherspoon and Moseley while Sherman is heading into the final year of his contract in 2020. Given that, San Francisco could benefit from adding a cornerback in the offseason.
