David West Read was an executive producer and writer of 17 episodes of Schitt's Creek. The Dan and Eugene Levy series aired from 2015-20 and was a hit.

However, in the age of revivals, no one is out of the question. Schitt's Creek seems primed to return someday, but Read doesn't seem so sure. Speaking to ClutchPoints ahead of The Big Door Prize Season 2 premiere, Read said he's content with how the show went out.

“I think, obviously, it's up to Dan and Eugene Levy whether they want to do more,” Read said with a smile. “But I think when you end something really well, it's hard to consider going back to that. And I feel like that last season of the show felt good to all of us in terms of where we have taken the characters from beginning to end.

“So, I think some things are best left as they are,” he concluded.

However, when asked if he would return if the Levys asked, Read nervously chuckled before conceding, “We'll see.”

It doesn't sound like a revival is in order quite yet. Fans will have to wait and perhaps Read is right when he says the show ended on the right note.

David West Read isn't just known for his tenure with Schitt's Creek. He has written the award-winning & Juliet play as well as In Dreams. His newest project, The Big Door Prize, began as an adaptation of M.O. Walsh's novel of the same name.

A second season was quickly announced after the first one aired on Apple TV+. Chris O'Dowd, Gabrielle Dennis, Josh Segarra, and Ally Maki once again return for the second season. It will premiere on April 24, 2024, on the streaming service.

What is Schitt's Creek?

Schitt's Creek is a comedy series that was created by Dan and Eugene Levy. It follows a wealthy family that goes to the titular small town. They purchased it years ago as a joke but that becomes their home upon losing their fortune.

Once there, the family goes from living in a mansion to living in a motel. The series depicts their adjustment to their new lives.

The Levy duo star in the series as Johnny and David, respectively. Catherine O'Hara plays Moira, Johnny's wife, and Annie Murphy plays Alexis, their daughter and David's sister. Chris Elliot, Jennifer Robertson, and Emily Hampshire also starred in the series.

The series aired on CBC Television from 2015-20. Six seasons, 80 episodes, and one special were produced during that period. During that run, Schitt's Creek received 19 Emmy nominations. It won nine total awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series in 2020.

Dan Levy did seem interested in doing a Schitt's Creek film. Upon winning several Emmys at the 2020 ceremony, Levy discussed the idea and hopes to return to the series and work with the crew again. Perhaps a one-off film is the route they will take instead of a revival series.
