After a solid start to their 2021 campaign, the Seattle Seahawks have taken a bit of a free fall after Russell Wilson was sidelined with a broken finger a few weeks back. Geno Smith has done everything in his power to keep the Seahawks afloat until Wilson is back at full health, but there's no denying they've still got some work to do – especially since they're yet to win a game since Wilson's been out injured.

While they continue to play for their first win with Smith under center for them, the Seahawks still have a good chance to make the playoffs. As they work to get back to .500 and fight their way out of last place in the NFC West, let's discuss three reasons the Seahawks can still make the playoffs in spite of their 2-5 start.

Russell Wilson could be back at full strength soon

In spite of him being sidelined over the past few weeks with a broken finger, Wilson could still make a return to the Seahawks line-up in time for them to turn things around and make the playoffs this season. If Wilson is able to fully recover this season, then the Seahawks will make the playoff race even tighter in the already competitive NFC West.

Given the talent they already possess on offense, there's no denying how much better their offense plays when Wilson is under center for them. His elite playmaking combined with his Super Bowl experience are just a few reasons why the Seahawks can never be counted out with Wilson as their starting quarterback.

Pete Carroll is a proven winner

With a ton of championship experience under his belt from calling plays for both USC and the Seattle Seahawks, Pete Carroll has made a name for himself as one of the top coaches in the NFL. This current Seahawks team is by no means on par with the legion of boom squad that took the league by storm several seasons ago, but they've still got the will and temperament to come up with timely stops and make some big plays with the game on the line.

Under the direction of Carroll's championship pedigree, they're more than capable of achieving exactly that. As long as the gum chewing football mastermind is running the show on their sidelines, then the Seahawks still have a good chance to make the playoffs. Even though there's still a bit of a ways to go before the playoffs approach, Carroll will definitely be cooking up a new game plan and pulling a few more tricks out of his sleeves as they aim to right the ship and get back to their winning ways.

Seattle can still make a few trades to improve their roster

Although they've been playing shorthanded, it's hard to overlook the fact that their play has horribly inconsistent all season, and that's even with Russell Wilson in their line-up and playing at 100%. If the Seahawks want to start making strides and improvements this season, then making a few quality trades wouldn't be a bad idea by any means.

After all, they've hit rock bottom and desperately want to get back into playoff contention. So why not make some moves that'll improve their roster and up their play on both sides of the ball? There's still some time for them to get busy and get this team the help it needs. In their quest to capture back their glory from previous seasons, the Seahawks may end up having a busier NFL trade deadline than expected.
