The No. 6 overall pick in 2013 by the Cleveland Browns, Barkevious Mingo has traveled throughout the NFL since his playing days in Cleveland ended prematurely before the 2016 season. The former LSU pass rusher converted to linebacker in Cleveland, which didn't work out, but he's since carved out a respectable career.

The New England Patriots took a gamble on Mingo in 2016, then saw him grow into a core special-teamer and Super Bowl winner. After one year in Foxborough, he found himself with the Indianapolis Colts, contributing and proving to be a versatile front-seven player. The Seattle Seahawks decided to test the waters with Mingo in 2018.

In his first season in Seattle — after signing a two-year contract — Mingo got comfortable playing WILL and SAM linebacker, but in 2019, he'll have to get comfortable with old college position as a pass-rusher. The Seahawks are converting him back to his initially intended position this season, a change he's excited about.

“I get to go back to what I did in college. That's kind of what got me here in the NFL. Being able to do this again, I'm enjoying the opportunity,” Mingo said, per 247 Sports' Steven Taranto.

As a pass rusher at LSU, Mingo tallied 15 sacks, 29 tackles for loss, 119 total tackles, and four forced fumbles. But in a modern-day NFL that prioritizes versatility on defense, teams saw a chess piece in the defender who ran a 4.58 second 40-yard-dash at the 2013 NFL Combine. For him, it's been “a blessing and a curse,” as adjusting takes time. However, he's enjoyed it in Seattle but can't wait to go back to primarily getting after the passer.

“I played WILL last year and I enjoyed the crap out of that,” Mingo said. “I was playing SAM and some end a little bit. But being able to go back and do this is definitely gonna be fun.”

Mingo may not shed a bust label anytime soon, but he can continue to be a contributor for a perennial playoff contender. He may receive an uptick in pass-rushing snaps to start the season with L.J. Collier battling a lower-body injury.
