Mike Macdonald is going to do a lot to replicate the success of Pete Carroll in the Seattle Seahawks system. He has already set up his own style of coaching with the team at Seahawks training camp. However, they may have just been set back by quite a lot after Geno Smith suffered an injury.

Geno Smith had to rush out of Seahawks training camp 25 minutes into their light practice, per Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune. The signal-caller was seen wearing a practice jersey over sweats as opposed to training gear. He was also not wearing a helmet which may indicate that Mike Macdonald's quarterback might be suffering from an ailment that is preventing him from practicing.

Notably, Smith had already missed some parts of the Seahawks training camp. He had to get his knee and hip worked on which resulted in the absence. There have been no official statements about the quarterback suffering. But, erring on the side of caution could be the move here because Macdonald does not want to face the same problem that Pete Carroll encountered in 2023. Smith had a groin injury and a tricep strain that kept preventing him from giving his best on the field.

The most that the Seahawks have disclosed about Smith's injury was a fairly glib statement from Macdonald. Apparently, the quarterback is just working through a couple of things. However, the team has advised him to get imaging on the same day that he was spotted at Seahawks training camp.

How has the Seahawks training camp been?

Well, Macdonald has made the field a little bit more competitive and fun this offseason. He introduced a championship that will be crowned to either the offense or defense on a daily basis. This is to promote a better team culture and synergy with one another. He outlined the reason why this was so beneficial for the Seahawks.

“The belt is something that's kind of fun to just mix it up and spice it up throughout camp. You know, ‘Who's holding the belt?' And then we can change the criteria of how you challenge it. “The criteria is ever-changing. I do reserve the right to switch it up on the guys. But it's exciting. And based on where the team is going, it's kind of a way to push buttons here and there and edge guys on if someone needs a little push. Put a little belt on the line or something like that. So it's fun,” he declared.

There are a lot of moving parts that Macdonald now has to take care of. Will he be a worthy successor to Pete Carroll?
