Following days of speculation, the Seattle Seahawks released All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman on Friday morning after seven seasons. It marked the end of a highly successful stint for Sherman with the organization where he played a key role in helping become one of the top-tier teams in the league.

However, it didn't take long for the 29-year-old to find a new landing spot as he inked a three-year, $39 million deal to join their NFC West division rival San Franciso 49ers on Saturday. A few hours before that announcement went public, his former teammate Russell Wilson took to social media to voice his appreciation for the opportunity to play together.

During their six seasons together in Seattle, the duo helped lead the franchise to a huge amount of success that included five straight trips to the playoffs with a pair of Super Bowl appearance while winning the organization's first Super Bowl. The team also held a winning record in each campaign while reaching at least 10 victories all but once that came this past season.

More importantly, the two were key parts in helping set the tone for the culture of the team on both sides of the ball as arguably the most critical pieces to the puzzle. Each of them came into the league and completely surpassed any of the expectations set in front of them to become superstars in the NFL as Sherman entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick and Wilson was selected in the third.

Despite their tenure together coming to a close, the two will compete against each other at least twice a year with Sherman now a member of the San Francisco 49ers. These matchups could become highly competitive between these two that built a strong relationship over the last several years. What Wilson's comments demonstrate is that Sherman was a beloved player in the locker room and garnered much respect from his teammates.
