Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings is about to hit theatres nationwide. Thanks to Empire, we get to see new exclusive photos from the film. Simu Liu looks like a complete badass as he faces the villainous Razor Fist, played by Florian Munteanu.

Meanwhile, speaking to the outlet, director Destin Daniel Cretton revealed that the opportunity to represent Asian-American identity drawn him to the film. He stated that: “I grew up with Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan and Jet Li. But I haven’t seen a hero on screen that really walks and talks like me, dresses like me, listens to the music that me and my friends listen to; somebody truly Asian-American. And that was what was really exciting to me, to create something that just shows the Asian-American experience through the eyes of a budding superhero.”

People aren't really familiar with Shang-Chi, but that was never a problem for Marvel Studios. They're known for making small-time superheroes go into the big leagues. Take the Guardians of The Galaxy for example. People thought that it would flop but Marvel proved them otherwise.

In the comics, the immortal crime lord and sorcerer Fu Manchu raised Shang-Chi to become a deadly assassin. However, Shang-Chi became aware of his father's evil nature and defected after his first assignment. He then began to attack various elements of his father's criminal empire and allied himself with his father's archenemy, Denis Nayland Smith, and MI-6.

Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings is set to release on August 16, 2021.
