The Philadelphia 76ers officially signed point guard Trey Burke on Tuesday. Burke reportedly signed a one-year deal with the Sixers worth $2.03 million.

Sixers general manager Elton Brand released a statement on the move.

“Trey’s experience as a ball-handler matched with his scoring ability makes him a good fit for our roster,” Brand said, via Sixers.com. “We’re excited to welcome him to the 76ers and look forward to the positive impact he can have on our team.”

Trey Burke began his NBA career with the Utah Jazz back in 2013. He was the ninth overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft out of the University of Michigan. The Sixers lost T.J. McConnell in free agency to the Indiana Pacers, so they needed a backup point guard for All-Star Ben Simmons.

Burke has played for the Jazz, Washington Wizards, New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks. He has career averages of 10.9 points, 2.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 361 games while shooting 40.8 percent from the field, 34.0 percent from beyond the arc and 80.0 percent from the free-throw line.

The Sixers are title contenders after signing Al Horford in free agency and acquiring Josh Richardson from the Miami Heat in the Jimmy Butler sign-and-trade deal. The Milwaukee Bucks are the other team in the East pundits have pegged as a title favorite.
