It's no secret that the city of Philadelphia doesn't like Ben Simmons. Ever since the Australian guard/forward requested a trade from the 76ers, his reputation has tanked greatly within the city. Many fans likely celebrated when he was finally dealt at the deadline to the Brooklyn Nets.
Amongst those who had some fun with the situation was the TV station NBC Sports Philadelphia, who expressed what the city truly felt about their ex-star. In a graphic comparing Ben Simmons with newly-acquired star James Harden after the trade, the graphic designers placed a fat “LOL” on Simmons' three-point shooting percentage. Simmons' aversion to shooting three-pointers (or shooting in general) has been one of the biggest woes of Sixers fans. The former first-overall pick seemed to go to great lengths just to avoid shooting the ball. His pass-first, no shooting style of play came back to haunt him and the team in the postseason multiple times.
However, the final straw came during their second-round matchup against the Atlanta Hawks. With their backs tied to the wall, the Hawks elected to deploy Hack-a-Ben tactics on Simmons. The Sixers star's atrocious shooting was put on full display, and it seemingly destroyed any confidence he had for that series. Passing up a wide-open dunk was the icing on this terrible cake.
Now, both the Sixers and Simmons can start fresh and move on from this drama. One thing's for sure, though: the fans and the city will always pull a Joel Embiid and mercilessly troll their former star whenever he plays on their court.
