Joel Embiid has been playing at an elite level for the Philadelphia 76ers so far this season — probably the best he's ever been throughout his career. This has unsurprisingly drawn a ton of praise from fans and experts alike, which now includes Sixers president for basketball operations Daryl Morey.
Morey has been so impressed with what he's seen from Embiid thus far that the first-year Sixers executive thinks that it's become unfair at times:
“Joel is in the rare group of players in NBA history where most of the time, when you watch him, you are wondering if there is a higher level basketball league he can be promoted to, as he is an unfair advantage in this league,” Morey said, via Derek Bodner of The Athletic.
It's hard to argue against Morey's claim here, with Embiid currently playing at an MVP pace.
Right now, the 26-year-old is averaging a career-best 29.3 points on 55.3 percent shooting (also a career-high mark), to go along with 10.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.2 blocks. Embiid is also hitting 1.2 triples per game on a career-best 39.0-percent clip. Needless to say, he's been one of the best players in the entire league so far.
More importantly, Embiid has led the Sixers to a 17-7 record. Philly is sitting at the top spot in the East and this certainly has a lot to do with Embiid's outstanding play.
The Sixers are in action on Tuesday against the Sacramento Kings, and we expect Embiid to be his usual dominant self again in that one.
