Much of the attention during the recovery process from a shoulder injury for Philadelphia 76ers rookie guard Markelle Fultz is how it would impact his shooting form.
Prior to missing the last couple of months due to the ailment, Fultz had undergone a huge alteration to his natural shooting form that drew much cause for concern. In fact, it became a major part of why the team finally took a more serious approach in addressing the 19-year-old's ailing shoulder.
Fultz is reportedly nearing his return to the court, but his shot still looks like it needs much work on getting back his original form before he hurt his shoulder. During the pregame workouts for the 76ers ahead of Thursday's tilt against the Boston Celtics, the former first overall was seen taking jump shots in an awkward shooting style.
Although it is just one shot attempt shown in the video, it doesn't look like Fultz has gotten back anywhere near what his shooting form was before. There isn't much fluidity in the release that lends toward a more of longer and awkward-looking release.
This comes a week after another video surfaced of him taking a pull-up jumper at the team's practice facility that had a noticeable hitch. The 76ers have yet to voice any serious concern about the shoulder injury impacting his shooting form, but it's becoming more clear that this may very well be the case.
Heading into the NBA, Fultz was regarded as one of the best offensive talents in his draft class. Much of that was due to his outside shooting ability to create his own shot. Now it appears he can't even do that just yet with this altered shooting form that lacks the same fluidity he had during his lone season at Washington.
Ultimately, it's something that Philadelphia will likely keep an eye once he does finally make his return to the court sometime in the next couple of weeks.
